A Message from the Director
Dear Laurel Springs Family,
It is my privilege and honor to welcome you to the 2010/2011 school year at Laurel Springs! I am proud of our school’s history and our illustrious student body. Our 19 years of experience is reflected in our reputation as a premier distance learning program. We understand what it takes to prepare your child for college, and we focus on offering a relationship-based school experience in a distance learning environment.
Laurel Springs believes students excel when the educational model matches a student’s goals, interests and talents. We were one of the first distance-learning schools to implement a learning style model of education. Our mastery-based approach, along with individualized teacher and staff support, integrate this philosophy into every aspect of our school.
Laurel Springs teachers and staff listen to their students and encourage their strengths, supporting them through graduation and the college acceptance process. As our students progress through high school, they benefit from our excellent college counseling services, which have helped our students achieve an outstanding track record of admission to the college or university of their choice.
We want you to feel supported and informed. Our online orientation resources are designed to serve as a roadmap and provide you with the resources and information you need to ensure that each student has a rich and positive experience. During your orientation, you will learn how your student can get involved in collaborative learning opportunities such as clubs, student council, and our chapters of the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. Students in grades 7-12 will find great educational and social experiences at MyLaurelSprings, our monitored online social networking space.
The orientation will also explain our new enhanced teacher services, including monthly teacher office hours that ensure your student spends time speaking directly to his or her teacher. We value your feedback and participation in our educational community, so please communicate regularly with your Enrollment Advisor, our Student Support Services Department and your teacher.
All of us at Laurel Springs are part of your learning team, and we look forward to a wonderful year together.
Warmly,
Marilyn Mosley Gordanier Executive Director Laurel Springs School
