Face-to-Face Events

At the end of each traditional academic school year, our school hosts a series of face-to-face events: National Honor Society Induction, Graduation, and Prom.  These three events are held in one location in Southern California and on the same weekend to make it easy for students and families to attend all events.  Many students travel from across the country (or the world) in order to attend.  Please take a moment to view our 2011 Laurel Springs Senior Memory Book. It includes many photographs of prom and graduation, as well as personal memory pages submitted by seniors.

Laurel Springs also holds a number of regional events throughout the year so that students and families can have additional opportunities to connect with each other and school staff members.

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

Our school honors its new National Honor Society members with an official induction ceremony that takes place in June in Southern California. This event is a milestone for students who have worked hard to meet the requirements of National Honor Society, and have completed challenging coursework and projects. National Honor Society members spend many hours working together on group activities and projects, and the induction ceremony is a wonderful way for these students to celebrate their accomplishments as a group. We join their family members during the meaningful ceremony to honor our students’ academic and personal achievements. The event concludes with a congratulatory party for new NHS members, their family members, and our faculty and staff. Graduation

Each year, Laurel Springs hosts a graduation ceremony in June in Southern California.  Our graduates have the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with their classmates and our wonderful staff. Students from around the world often attend our graduation ceremony. We offer a full graduation experience, complete with caps, gowns and diplomas. Our graduation ceremony feels personal for graduates and families, because it features inspiring statements from teachers about their experiences with graduating students. Also, as a distance learning school, teachers, students and family members who cannot attend in person have the option of attending virtually from any location with Internet access.  Contact the school counseling department at email hidden; JavaScript is required for more information.

Prom

All high school students are invited to attend the Laurel Springs Prom, which is held each June in Southern California.  Our prom is organized by students with the help of faculty and staff, and includes fabulous decorations, delicious food, and a DJ who keeps the dance floor packed.  One student said, “It was amazing to be there. I got to meet people I’d only spoken to through a computer, see friends I’d previously met, and meet new people, all while dancing and having more fun than I’ve ever had in my life. Unlike some parties or dances, there was no pressure.  It didn’t matter if you knew everyone or knew no one; you were still welcomed into the group. I felt like I truly belonged.”  Many of our students make connections during the prom that last for many years.  We encourage our high school students to attend the prom, which is a fun opportunity to enrich peer relationships and take advantage of a traditional high school experience. Regional Socials

Laurel Springs supports its students by attending many events around the country. We connect with our families at homeschool conferences, specialty athletic and performance events, and education-related conventions.  Frequently, we host social activities in conjunction with these events so that our local families can socialize in a relaxed setting and get to know each other.  Parents and students appreciate this opportunity to connect in person with other Laurel Springs families who live in the same part of the country. Notice of these events is posted in our monthly newsletters (Community Threads and Parent Journal), our School News and Education blogs, and as in posts on our school’s Facebook Wall and in our tweets on Twitter.
