Middle School
As your children progress into their middle school years, our college prep program builds self-esteem and lays the groundwork for high school. All middle school courses include a comprehensive syllabus (curriculum guide) with suggestions for engaging projects and assignments. This is the time in your child’s life when inspiration and motivation are the keys to success. Your family may choose to combine our textbook-based and online courses as needed to create an optimal learning experience to meet the individual needs of your child. Laurel Springs offers opportunities for students to participate in our Gifted & Talented Academy starting in 6th grade. In addition, beginning in 7th grade, students are eligible to join our online social network and clubs.
Our Middle School Counselor
Your child’s middle school counselor provides personal, social and academic support to all middle school families through the enhancement of student, parent and staff connections, and increased opportunities for student socialization and parent support networking. Counselors address the academic, personal and social needs of our students, promote engaging and supportive programs, collaborate with the student’s teachers, write recommendation letters, and help our students and their families prepare for high school. In this way, the counselor builds a relationship throughout middle school to help bridge the transition to high school that may be difficult for some students.
The middle school counselor plays a key role in keeping your child focused and on track toward academic success. In preparation for high school, eighth graders receive academic and college guidance from a school counselor to ensure they are on track to achieve their post-secondary goals. In their last year of middle school, students also receive a high school academic plan.
Our middle school program offers your child the option to accelerate and prepare for the rigor of high school by taking a high school level course. This special opportunity allows your child to earn credit that applies toward their high school graduation; please contact your school counselor to learn more about this option.
Mentoring Program
The Laurel Springs Link Crew is a mentoring program that connects eighth grade and high school students to provide a network of support. Eighth grade students who choose to participate in Link Crew are assigned a high school student mentor based upon their specific goals and needs. Mentors provide support, guidance, assistance and friendship, which helps eighth grade students as they prepare for their transition to high school. Link Crew members have the opportunity to create a collaborative newsletter that focuses on the eighth grade experience at Laurel Springs, where they can share their skills in art and writing. Our students who participate in Link Crew feel a sense of involvement and community. If your child is interested in participating in Link Crew, please contact your school counselor.
