Laurel Springs provides a rich and varied learning experience for our families with students enrolled in grades K-5. Students, parents and teachers work in close conjunction with one another to provide students with a high-quality, flexible and hands-on education. Our parents play an active role in facilitating learning and providing strong support at home, and our staff and teachers provide families with the skills and support necessary for a successful school year.
Our students in grades K-4 can take advantage of our project-based curriculum, which integrates subjects and focuses on meaningful, engaging projects. Academic skills are seamlessly woven into these larger learning experiences. Each project-based curriculum path is aligned to California State Standards for Education in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.
Our goal is for your family to have a successful school year, so we include in your curriculum package a detailed manual that provides the essential components for orientation to your selected program and our school. The manual includes the following key items:
- Materials list
- General information that explains how to approach the program
- Practical help about successful time management and scheduling
- Information about the roles of the home teacher and suggestions for how to best work with your child
- Information about the role of the Laurel Springs teacher
- Curricular materials about each subject
- Ideas about ways to enhance your child’s learning experience through varied assignments and interactive opportunities
- How to submit your child’s work to Laurel Springs
- Weekly lessons with instructions about how to approach the material, important areas of focus and activities which must be completed
Beginning in grade 4, your children can enroll in our text-based curriculum. Syllabi and course orientation materials for text-based enrollments can be accessed by students and parents from the Learning Management System (LMS). Students and parents in grades K – 4 are encouraged to take an orientation course for our LMS. This brief course reviews all of the important functions and navigation of the Laurel Springs LMS, including:
- Submitting coursework
- Viewing grades and teacher feedback
- Communicating with your teacher
- Managing your calendar and pacing guide
In order to be successful, our parents should review thoroughly all course orientation materials and curriculum, which provides them with the foundation to effectively work with their children and teachers. When your child completes coursework, it is reviewed first by the parent, and then directly uploaded into the LMS, which allows for ongoing and timely feedback from your child’s teacher. The flexibility of the program means that our students receive individual attention to their specific learning styles and needs through varied activities and experiences. Coupled with the course materials, your teacher empowers you with the knowledge to effectively navigate this educational experience with your child.
Students who are in 5th grade have the option to take online courses with Laurel Springs, and it is recommended that these students and their parents take the middle school online orientation course.
